Cateogry: Love
OLD FASHIONED LOVE
What happened to old fashion love? I watched an elderly couple the other day. They were getting out of their vehicle. The man, I would say he was the husband, got of the driver’s seat and walked over to the passenger side and opened the door for a small framed woman who appeared to be in her 70’s. She wore eye glasses and walked with a cane. He was a tall slender man with arched shoulders. He too wore glasses but was more mobile than his wife. She smiled as he helped her out of the car and the two of them walked arm in arm slowly down the street. So I ask once again, what happened to old fashion love?.............more detail

New Love
When you meet someone new of the opposite gender with the intended purpose of dating, this first stage of the process is what I like to call the “Euphoric Stage.” According to the American Heritage Dictionary, euphoria is the state of great happiness. I will agree, especially if there is a connection with that person. The symptoms can range from butterflies in the pit of your stomach, eating or sleeping deprivations and sitting in anticipation of their call. If you’ve ever been in love, you know what I mean. Well, why does this stage have to end? .............more detail

COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY
“You never listen, and can’t take criticism." “You always have to be right.” Words such as these are often stated in the heat of an argument; the time when, in truth, no one should be speaking. It is in anger when we generally speak the things that hurt the ones we love the most..............more detail

True Love
True love. Does it exist? Does it manifest in our minds or in our hearts? Or is love simply a four-letter word that we toss around loosely, devoid of meaning? Do we announce our love for our own selfish gain or must we speak its name with as much passion as we speak the name of the Lord?.............more detail

All My Life
All my life I have had some strange dreams. I must admit that sometimes the dreams feel so real; that is until I wake up the next morning feeling really stupid. But the strangest dream I’ve ever had happened last night. It was like no other dream before. This one really had me believing it was real. I dreamt that I was in the presence of a tall handsome man..............more detail

In Love an Over Rated Commodity
So, let’s move on and discuss this high price commodity, the in love experience. I have for the last 3 year have had others in love with me or me in love with them. I can think of 3 experiences that stick out the most in my mind. One was with a sistah who was very community conscious, in fact she ran for a public office twice!. The other was originally from a small town...a wholesome sistah; I will just call her Butterfly. The third is a sister I call little mama. .............more detail

Enjoy Life!
Enjoy Life! Live! Yes, absolutely there are lots of things to think about, but there are lots of things to enjoy, too. As we get older, it’s not so much the things that we did that we regret, it’s the things we didn’t do that we regret even more. Live your life so that you have few regrets..............more detail

HOW TO LOVE A SISTA
Within the African-American community there is a definite and noticeable lack of strong, faithful, happy, long-term relationships. What has been lost over the last 30 to 40 years to the creation and lifespan of successful ebony relationships? Have our people forgotten how to make commitment work, or have black men and women ceased to care enough to put forth a conscious effort to search for, secure, and love one another?.............more detail

Why, Me?
I have always understood why men had affairs on their wives or girlfriends. It’s pretty simple really; they just have that desire to be with someone new, that new experience, that new passion, or they’re not getting what they need from their partner at home and it’s not just for sex, but ends up there. .............more detail

I Love you. But.
I fell in love with this beautiful goddess of a woman, a body that would make a old man wish he was young. Long curly hair, skin that was smooth and soft, breast that seemed too make music when she brushed against me, notes that song out to my lips. Just a smoking body, little sweet thing. .............more detail

Commitment is one of those qualities that everyone seems to think he or she can define, until he or she is asked to define it. Recognizing committed couples is easier than describing one. One’s actions demonstrate commitment rather than their words.

Nephrologist Martin Pollak and his team found that a common genetic mutation of the APOL1 gene might be partly responsible for African Americans' susceptibility. The mutation likely arose due to natural selection because it protects against African sleeping sickness, Pollak wrote. Yet it also makes African Americans more vulnerable to kidney disease, according to the study released last month in the online issue of Science Magazine.
